O’BRIEN / GASTEEN Shona M [Mrs]
1976 – 1976 and 1990
Art
Mrs Shona O’Brien (later Gasteen) who was the sole art teacher at King’s in 1976 returned in 1990 to cover for David Bell while he is the Teaching Fellow in Art History at Otago University.
Shona Gasteen has spent 17 years teaching since she left school.
Has she done a good job? Blair Kennedy says so. According to Blair she has ‘survived through some hard times.’
Since leaving school Mrs Gasteen has been teaching art in Australia and is returning to Australia next year.
She says she has enjoyed her time at King’s and if she had the chance to teach here again she would, but only if she stayed in New Zealand.
To all budding artists she gives this inspirational advice: “Don’t try and make a living out of it!”
