King’s lost the toss and was asked to bat on a green wicket. A disastrous first morning saw King’s bowled out cheaply with Tom Jolly top scoring with 31 not out. Southland batted well in their first innings and the bowling spell of the season cannot go unmentioned here as a tireless effort from Kyle Burns saw him bowl nineteen consecutive overs ending with the figures of 6 for 67, a truly Herculean effort! Batting frailties were again exposed in the King’s second innings with the side being dismissed again for under 200. George McCall batted with defiant aggression scoring a run a ball (50) but unfortunately no one else scored runs of significance and an outright loss resulted.
King’s were keen to right the wrongs of the Southland game and bounce back in the second interschool of the season. An absorbing match resulted with King’s needing one wicket for victory but having to settle for a draw. Key contributors with the bat were Pat Arnold with a patient 44 and Kurt Johnstone with an aggressive 50. Wickets were picked up in the first innings by Finn Ward with 4 for 7 and Pat Arnold in the second innings with 4 for 44.
Unfortunately the match was rained out after one day’s play. On the first day James Brown collected 4 for 42 on a flat wicket, his best return for the season.

Southland Boys’ High School, 19th & 20th February: Match Drawn
King’s lost the toss and were asked to bowl on a well used wicket in Invercargill. Kasey Short picked up 3 wickets and Nathan Hastie had 4, to bowl Southland out for 200. Nathan backed up his bowling effort with a fighting 57. He was well supported by Nic Brosnihan with 29 and Connor Murray with 34. Kyle Hastie took 3 wickets in Southland’s second innings. King’s ran out of time chasing 120 for the outright win.
Shirley Boys’ High School, 5th & 6th March: King’s won by 8 wickets.
Kyle Burns’ poor run calling the toss correctly continued, and King’s were duly asked to bowl first on a flat dusty looking Shirley wicket. To say this was a match for King’s ‘spin twins’ Jack Oaten and Nathan Hastie is an understatement. Between them they took 17 of the 20 wickets to fall, and dominated the Shirley batsmen throughout. The batting end was held with a gutsy 90 from Jeremy Hastie, with support from Kyle Burns (32) , Ethan Booth (35) and Nathan Hastie (29 not out). Nic Brosnahan 38 not out), Connor Murray (25) and Kyle Burns (21 not out) chased down the 95 needed for the victory in quick time.
Waitaki Boys’ High School, 12th & 13st March: Match Abandoned
Unfortunately, the southern weather was the winner in this interschool, and for a second year in a row the game was weather affected and the game was abandoned without a ball being bowled

Southland Boys’ High School Match Drawn – King’s batted first and scored 244 with Nathan Hastie scoring 72 and Jacob Gilbert scoring 54. In reply SBHS were all out for 107 with Nathan Hastie collecting 4 wickets and Ryan Waterston on debut picking up 3. King’s did not enforce the follow on and quickly scored 64 before declaring and setting SBHS 202 in 55 overs, a very generous declaration. Southland scored quickly and were on target to secure victory. They required 4 runs from Nathan Hastie’s final over with three wickets in hand. Nathan bowled a very tight over and secured a stumping of the last ball to have Southland nine wickets down and one run shy of victory, match drawn! Shirley Boys’ High School Match Drawn – Kings were asked to bat first, they progressed through to 153 with Jacob Murray top scoring with 44. Shirley had their turn at bat and scored 154 in reply with Nathan Hastie being the pick of the bowlers snaring 4 for 18 off 14 overs. In the second innings we set Shirley a target of 153. Kings bowled and fielded well but were unable to snare the last two wickets and the game ended in a draw. Waitaki Boys’ High School Win by four wickets – Waitaki scored 145 with Nathan Hastie being the chief destroyer with 6 for 20 off 16 overs. King’s declared 5 runs in front after Captain Hastie stroked 53 and Jacob Gilbert hit 31 in short time. King’s bowled Waitaki out quickly on the second morning with the skipper collecting another four wickets to pick up a rare ten wicket bag for the match. He was supported at the other end with two wickets each going to Jackson Clearwater, Jacob Gilbert and Jacob Murray. The chase of 137 for victory was led by Beckham Wheeler-Greenall who smashed the Waitaki attack to all corners of the ground and scored an unbeaten 92.
