Charitable Trust

King’s High Old Boy (1970-74, Blues in Athletics, Cricket and Rugby) has taken up a role with the Charitable Trust with a view to raising its profile and re-engaging with the school’s alumni.

Steve is a highly regarded and proven corporate host and fundraising events manager who has organised and hosted more than 250 functions – breakfasts, lunches, dinners, golf tournaments and book launches – for various individuals, corporate and charity groups since 1993.

He has been on the public speaking circuit for the last 30 years and was heavily involved in 2011 Rugby World Cup hospitality throughout the country.

After a full-time career in newspapers and radio, Steve successfully launched and administered the Skeggs Foundation (1993-2001) and the Otago Boys’ High School Foundation (2004-2009). He currently holds a part-time contract as the Events Manager for the Otago Medical Research Foundation, having worked as the Foundation’s Director of Development for seven and a half years, raising almost $5 million in the process.

He is a sought-after and highly respected public speaker, Master of Ceremonies and host and is well known as a long-standing member of the New Zealand sporting media. He began broadcasting Cricket on radio in the 1983/84 season, was rugby’s radio commentator in Dunedin from 1984 to 1991 and broadcast Rugby on Sky Television from 1996 until 2013. He has travelled overseas on both radio and television assignments.

Steve has advised a number of leading sporting personalities, including double Olympic Games Swimming gold medallist Danyon Loader, former Silver Ferns Netball captain Lesley Nicol and former New Zealand Test Cricketer Matthew Bell.
