The season started with a bang as the squad represented the school at the Otago Indoor Rowing Championships and came away with a haul of medals. This set the young men up for what was going to be an amazing season. The trainings were on target and the young men were making significant progress with their rowing development.

The first regatta saw the young men take to Lake Waihola and make some good gains in the preparation for their season. This great start was somewhat hampered by the departure of our coach midway through the season. However, Mr Booth stepped up and, with help from Dave Hanan and Mike Hill, the young men started to gain back what had been lost. Unfortunately, this was a little late in the season and the rest of the regattas did not meet the squad’s expectations.

Highlights of the season included several personal bests, several ‘B’ finals and Jasper Rainey earning a Bronze medal at the South Island Secondary School Championships. The summer training camp held on Lake Dunstan, rowing out of Dunstan Arm Rowing Cub, saw the squad enjoy the competition with the locals during training. With that in mind, a massive thank you to Thea Davis from Queen’s Rowing who stepped in to help make a quad so the young men could get some quality training in.

The school and the squad would like to thank the amazing contributions made by parents throughout the whole season; without your support and dedication your young men would not have had such an opportunity. Thank you to North End Rowing Club (NERC) for their ongoing support and facilities and to Dave Hanan and Emma Wallace who have been amazing; thank you. Mr David Booth has been a constant in the King’s rowing for such a long time and without his drive, determination and passion the sport would not exist within our school, thank you for everything you have done for us.
